Freehit (freehit.eu) asks nothing of you: no account, no sign-up form, no card. Some data still moves whenever a page loads or a stream plays. This page says what that data is, who sees it, and what you can do about it.

Who runs the site

Freehit does. For anything on this page, write to freehit@protonmail.com.

What is handled, and by whom

Server logs. The web server notes each request as it comes in: your IP address, the time, the page asked for and your browser's identification string. That is what keeps the site running and lets us trace abuse. Logs are kept for a short while and then dropped.

The stream token. A stream will not start without a token. The page makes one from a one-way hash of your IP address and today's date, and your phone attaches it to every request it sends the video servers. The token cannot be turned back into your address, and we keep no record of it.

Advertising. The ads on the match pages come from Google AdSense, and they are what pays for the streams. Google's code sets and reads its own cookies and identifiers on your device, may use them to pick ads for you, and takes you to the advertiser's page when you tap one. Google describes this in How Google uses cookies in advertising. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland a consent message appears first, and the Consent settings link in the footer brings it back whenever you want to change your answer. Ads are left out of the home-screen app.

Viewer-to-viewer delivery. Part of each stream reaches you from other people watching the same match, and part of what you have received goes on to them, over WebRTC. While a stream plays, those viewers and the peer-to-peer service behind it can see your public IP address, and the service gets technical details such as your browser type and transfer speeds. Passing video on uses some of your upload allowance. There is no switch for this; it is how the streams are built. If you would rather not take part, do not play them.

Cloudflare. Every request to the site passes through Cloudflare, which sees your IP address and the request itself in order to serve the page and block attacks.

Cookies and local storage

Clearing the site's data in your browser removes all of them. Neither the match list nor the player needs a cookie.

Your choices

Your rights

Where data-protection law applies to you, such as in the EEA or the UK, you can ask what personal data we hold, have it corrected or deleted, and object to some uses of it. Since the site has no accounts, what we hold comes down to short-lived server logs. Write to us and you will hear back.

Children

The site is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

Changes

If what the site handles changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
